Garmin 010 10998 00 Foot Pod for Forerunner 305 310XT 405 405CX 50 and FR60

Garmin 010 10998 00 Foot Pod for Forerunner 305 310XT 405 405CX 50 and FR60

Now you can train indoors with your Forerunner 305 and still track your distance, pace and calories burned. The wireless Foot Pod attaches to your running shoe (threads through the laces for a secure fit) and transmits your distance and pace to the Forerunner. Use the Foot Pod on an indoor track, treadmill or anywhere you can’t get GPS satellite signals.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Foot Pod for my Forerunner 405
The foot pod is great. Unfortunately, it arrived with a DEAD battery – really not cool considering how much money it cost. BUT less than $4 later for a new battery (CR2032), the foot pod worked perfectly! It is super accurate and even let me know the degree of inaccuracy of my gym’s treadmills.

4 Stars Works as advertised
Works fine, synced easily with watch. Bought one for myself and husband in February, both died within 1 hour of each other even though I used mine more than he did (lasted approx 4 months).

It was easy to find a replacement battery – Got one at Walgreens, probably at any hardware store too. Batteries about $2-$4 each.

The footpod distance is always slightly further than the treadmill distance. I know that you can “calibrate” it to a known distance. But hello, if I had a place to go and calibrate the distance, why would I need a footpod?

If you are a casual cyclist like myself and don’t have cycling shoes, but use your running shoes – make sure you take the footpod off the shoe when riding. The footpod will override the GPS (even with GPS on and in biking mode). So you won’t get the right distance recorded (despite correct map in Garmin Training Center) and you won’t get the right calorie count.

Happy Trails!

4 Stars dead battery
This product is very useful when running indoors on a track or treadmill. However i was very disapointed when it shipped with a dead battery and I had to order a new one. Pairing the device was also a bit annoying as you have to shake the pod when the forerunner is searching for it. Other than that it is very accurate and works like a charm once it has a battery and is paired.

4 Stars Great Product
This product like all of the Garmin range works as advertised. The only down side is that the gps function is not used for distance when pob is used. Fine for running machine but not great fro out side as you lose the map function.

3 Stars Works once you buy a new battery for it
I was unable to pair the Foot Pod with my Forerunner 305 so arranged to return the unit to Amazon. Amazon was great…they sent a new unit out by overnight FedEx, even though my original unit was shipped using 2-day shipping.

Unfortunately, when I got the new unit I wasn’t able to pair it either. Having read some of the other reviews here, I bought a new battery for the unit. Again, I was unable to pair it with the Forerunner.

Next, I went to the Garmin support site (which is really poorly designed) and found an article saying that if you swap batteries, you must wait at least one minute after removing the old battery before you put the new one in. Apparently, this is true even if the original battery is weak (as was the one I got new with the unit.) Alas, after pulling the new battery out for a couple of minutes and then reinserting it, I was able to pair the Foot Pod with the Forerunner.

My experience appears to be common, and IMHO, is unacceptable. The Foot Pod should be shipped with the battery not inserted (or with an insulating material blocking it from making contact) so that the unit isn’t dead on arrival. For this reason, and also because the Garmin support site is so lousy, I’ve given my review just three stars. I’ll also note (as others have) that the instructions Garmin provides in the support section is very difficult to find, and omits the necessary step of having to shake the unit for it to be found by the Forerunner.

I also think this is overpriced for what you get. Before I bought the Forerunner I used a Nike+iPod sending unit that was a) much smaller; b) much cheaper. (I wanted the integration with the Forerunner, though.)
